Default Running without dump valve

Reading this thread https://www.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-...i-story-2.html

It got me wondering, can I run without a DV on my car and if so what affect would it have.....good or bad. Turbo is a standard TD05 with a frount mount etc.

Very bad affect, will greatly reduce the life of your turbo!

I've run a TD05 based turbo with no dump valve for about 4 years, not recommended on a car with a MAF though.

utter tosh. i run cars without d/vs and havent seen a single turbo die because theres no dump valve on it.get better response from the turbo IME as well.if youre so worried dont turn up the boost or tune your car either,as this will reduce the life of all the cars components as theyll need to work harder.

This surely results in wastegate chatter and turbostall where the air goes rushing back over the blades slowing the turbo abruptly thusly reducing turbo life significantly!

yes,but then running more boost will put more strain on your turbo, the engine, the oil system, the cooling system, the brakes (as youll be going faster into bends),the suspension etc....regardless of a dump valve or not, most tuning puts more strain on certain parts of your car, accept this and youre fine. running without a dump valve has advantages, and is a must in some scenarios (rallying for example as als wont run properly with a dv) and to say its NEVER a good idea is wrong. i personally wont use a dump valve as ive felt the difference between running with and without with 34psi,and it was astonishing.20000 miles later the turbo was still perfectly functional and not blown due to no dv.ive personally never seen a turbo blow because it had no dv. i would like to see one where the only attributable fact was this. i understand slightly why people run them, and realise some cars managements dont like not having one,but given the option, mine is filed under "trash".
