my guess....220-230

IC Y-Piece, DIY Ported headers ....230-240 (but much better low-end)

Dawes @ 1.0 bar .... 240-250

3 port BCS + Remap @ 1.3 bar ... 260-280

Heres what I am doing!

Sports Cat (£299) or you could decat (£50-£150 off flea bay)
Bigger Turbo (TD05 or VF34) (from £120 on here or fleabay)
255lph fuel pump (£100 new)
Ecutek remap (done at same time as above to avoid fuelling issues)(£650)
Fitting of the above (Dunno, but usually £50/hour)
Ported headers (either DIY or £150+)

This = 320bhp and high 200lbft torque and big grins for less than £1500 I would think!

All of above is good, plus maybe a Newage intercooler ?

Ninja Sportscat downpipe from Scoobyworld is a good choice. Should be able to get a garage that charges less than £50/hr . Would have thought a 2nd hand turbo would be nearer £250 though.

Happy modding !

Or just sportscat dp and unlicenced map for about £600 in total and near enough 280 bhp. (Unlicenced - Simon aka "JollyGreenMonster").

The Strandard MY99 IC is fine for 320bhp, however, if finances allow, a front mount intercooler is the way to go, it might not be needed to gain power but will add longevity to your engine and gain cred from those in the know.

Got my TD05 from a 36k mile RA for £124 off good old Flea bay about a month ago after missing out on 2 others for less money, David at API says it is a good one. I grant you, for a VF34 you would be looking at more like £250+ but the TD05 will manage 320bhp with spool up close to the TD04!

Also got a TSL Thunder cat grpN 100cell cat down pipe with less than 20k from shebay for £190, but you can get one from API for about £250 plus VAT.

Best to source all the bits you need and get it all on at once, you will save heaps on labour and I'll stress again, the 255lph fuel pump AND remap needs to be done along with any mods to prevent it all going pop!

I should know, just a decat centre, Green panel filter and a slight MAF misfunction was enough to cause substantial engine damage , which is why motor it is at API at the mo being rebuilt - and pepped - see view my car!

The issue of damaging my 97k engine does concern me,a LOT! it has going full service history admitidly and I've just done the oil and filter myself - so fuel pump first then and remap, and then see how we go eh- can I assume it'll be scoffing more petrol or just have the ability to dish out more as the engine requests it? thanks and sorry for my newbie numptiness!

I've heard both sides of the arguement about the fuel pump, some say you will damage the engine by it running rich, to quote Andy F:

"it will run a little rich due to the higher fuel pressure. The OE fuel pressure regulator struggles to return the increased flow rate to the tank and hence the fuel pressure to the injectors can rise, particularly at idle when the engine is consuming very little fuel.
It wouldn't cause a problem in the short term (week or so) but extended use may cause plug fouling, increased fuel consumption and in extreme cases, increased engine wear due to bore wash".

Other that you won't, David at API:

" The standard engine is safe to 330 hp and I would fit the hp [high pressure (fuel)] pump now or at build time. The problems Andy indicates are unlikely and whilst it can happen I have never seen it actually happen."

To be properly safe (my engine went at 67k miles with FSSH etc) I would save up and amass the bits you need then either fit them all yourself (forgot to mention you will need the turbo converting to front entry which costs about £30-£40) and gently head off for a remap asafp or get one of the well known garages to fit it all for you and do the remap at the same time.

Also of interest from David: "440's run out of steam at 330 and the STI turbo will run out at 350. On your original TD04 turbo you will get about 300 on a good day". confiming what I said earlier (where's Damocell when you need him? ).

I have also fitted oil pressure, oil temperature and boost gauges and have am going to get a detalarn to fit as soon as my car arrives back so that I will know if any overheating, overboosting or fueling issues are occuring before that kill another engine.

After a remap you will also need to run 98 octane fuel or better to get the best out of it and also maintain it's safety (either Shell v power or Tesco 99 or super unleaded (97 RON) with an octane boosting additive) so factor that in to any decisions. I have been told that with a remap, huge increases in fuel consumption can be avoided but I can't see a 50% not making a reasonable difference to the guzzling, 320bhp should be worth it though!

Hope we are helping.

Depends how you define close

It's a significantly bigger turbo, so you have to wait longer for it to kick in, that's unavoidable, but the kick will be much bigger!
