PLEASE HELP URGENT STARTING PROBLEM
Hi,
MY93 WRX won't start, it turns over fine but won't fire up,
When i turn the ignition on i can no longer hear the fuel pump prime.
What should i be checking to find out the problem?
Any help would be much appreciated as i need it to get to work.
Many thanks
Matt

Could start checking the fuses, or look through the book to see which fuse feeds the fuel pump relay, if you have a test meter measure across the fuel pump for volts.

Thanks Eprom, i haven't got a manual so wouldn't know which fuse is which though.
However i've got an update but still need help.
I think i have traced the problem, under the rear seat on the drivers side is a connector with about 4 wires going to/from it. When i moved this connector the fuel pump started working and the car started, as soon as i let go the pump stopped and the engine died.
So its a dodgy connector i think. I noticed that one of the 2 larger wires has got hot, melting the plastic on the connector a bit.
Would this be a result of it loosing its connecton intermittedly so maybe sparking, or is there a bigger problem causing it?
Can i just use a teminal block to rewire and bypass this connector or should i get a new one?
Is there any electrical experts out there ;-)

I had this about two weeks ago, it went to my local dealer on the back of a flatbed truck, they had the car for 6 days, they couldnt find a fault, but after they disconnected the battery it reset the ECU, then it started first time.
Confused the garage and hurt my wallet Try resetting your ECU or just disconnect the battery.

i would do away with the connector, solder and heat shrink the wires.would be a nice cheap and easy repair.

Dodgy Connector
Hi mate,
Had identical problem a couple of years back, even changed fuel pump first to no avail. My connector had melted under back seat, and played up something rotten - would run for ages and then break down - then start etc etc - got flat bedded home twice over three months by AA. Ended up by passing connector with bullet connectors from local factors, and have had no problem since. Main problem was lack of info on fuel pump wiring - took me ages to find through trial and error.
Good luck,
Mart

Hi Matt
Sorry i have been offline, Maplin may have some plugs/sockets you can make up, or buy one of those crimping tools with the selection connectors, if you are no good at soldering and heat shrink wrapping.
