i was thinking of getting a dump valve for my07 wrx but got told by someone that they are not so good for the car. can anyone advise me? many thanks.

I have one fitted to my 2003 wrx and it is ok but for some reason they sound nicer on the older models. We have to really boot the car for the release

They aint likely to cause any major problems to the engine but their not gonna help any either.

Wont help performance, could lose some throttle response.

only bonus is the noise, unless you dont like the noise

IMO,and its just that, there a must for ANY PETROL turbo car.
unless u go for the sleeper approach.

if the cars got all this bhp why not show it off at sensible speeds by letting all the excess boost out, i love mine !!!!

I have always been of the opinion that an aftermarket dumpvalve is an "optional" mod for those that specifically want some more noise, or have a little more bling in the engine bay.

However!

Recently we have had good improvements in response and an improvement in held boost at high RPM with aftermarket dumpvalves. Certainly some of the OE valves open easily, and offer the best in terms of idle stability, but in a few cases we have had a big improvement in feel after fitting a much "stiffer" valve. I would still always recommend a recirc, although a VTA can work nicely on some cars, I would say that for those with significant mods, and running a reasonable amount of boost (say 1.5 bar) should at least experiment.

Hi Paul,

Could you recommend a recirc for a 97UK + FMIC (TD04 @ 1.3bar) ? I'm still using the oe one and all's ok but back-outs above 1bar are a bit shuffly. Gonna go for a TD05-18g next so will need to uprate the DV anyway.

We've been stocking and using the Turbosmart range of dumpvalves (vee-port, supersonic, plumback etc) with some success. Besides that the Forge units are the only ones I have real confidence in recommending.

With the 18g/FMIC combo, I just replaced the 97OE part with a Turbosmart Vee-port with great success, much better than I imagined. It was set very stiff, but was okay on lift-off. The recirc version is more expensive (same with the forge ones i think).

So there you go!

I have a GFB WRX Hybrid on my '04 V-Ltd. It works great. It blows to the atmosphere as well as the intake and can be set to full atmo or full recirc as well as both (hybrid). Have a look at Go Fast Bits 2006
