Default My engine gone?

was driving earlier tonight when my engine suddenly lost power and when I depressed the clutch it stalled , so I stopped the car and tried to start it and it appeared to have very low battery power , so I turned off all lights etc , and tried to start it again , well it started but just barely and I could here it knock very badly.. so I turned it off again and got the car towed...

any ideas what could be wrong.. or is the engine fried?

Default sounds like

sounds like what happened to me.....don't panic yet though.....first thing to do is get a compression test done on your cylinders. This will show up any bottom end probs. then you can take it from there.

It does sound like bottom end unfortunately; the compression test won’t tell you much with regards to bearing failure. A good start would be to drain the oil and look for debris also you can rotate the engine by hand using a breaker bar you should be able to feel by rotating if anything is a miss.

Best thing to do is get the car to a good garage and they will diagnose the problem pretty much straight away if it’s the bottom end.

Agree with what has been said, the only glimer of hope is you mention the battery seeming low.. was the alternator light on? perhaps the alternator or the belt failed?

yeah, check your alternator. if its internals have self destructed they can make some nasty noises. If you take the belt off and spin it by hand you may be able to feel if its shot.
