Its sounds to me that you have a broken passenger side exhaust cam wheel. So your timing belt is off.
I would remove the plastic covers from the same damage side to check the inlet cam wheel.
With the cam wheel being broken its a possibilty you may have some bents valves?
If your lucky you may only need a new cam wheel & timing belt with covers etc. Refit & pray nothing internally was damaged.
Ticky

Thats the cam pulley allright
If the guy slammed his brakes on and stalled the engine before impact, you might have got away with it, but I've seen heads that have cracked casings around the cam locators after similar impacts. Best get the rocker cover off and have a good look.

I was correct exhaust cam wheel smashed.
I have only seen 1 classic with similar damage to the front end (2 cam wheels broken). The owner (also my friend) decided not to take the engine apart (ie remove the heads) New cam wheels & timing belt where fitted & the engine ran sweet. Lucky for him.
For starters you will need a new timing belt, cam wheel & covers.
You need to strip down the damaged section ie all the plastic covers on the engine & make sure nothing else is damaged.
Check you timing belt tensioner & the smaller pullies.

If the Cam Timing jumped more than 3 teeth on "Impact" - you will have
bent Valves and possibly damaged Valve Guides.
Because of the design of the Heads, its the Inlet Valve to Exhaust Valve contact which causes the damage, not the Piston hitting the Valves.
Be worth getting a Cylinder Leakage Test(not Compression Test) done to be 100% sure.

dont want to put a downer on this but if any cam wheel snaps it puts all engine timing out as belt would come slack , needs taking apart and all valves and both head checking really , like merlin say clt test will determine any bent valves to be right normally guides are fine as valve bends lower down . only bad thing is valves arnt cheap api probally your best bet and will get them fast . do clt first to see if any probs if that fine just replace belt etc and time it up .. gazza
