Default Facelift Classic WRX tech questions?

Hi all hope you can - help have a few questions about my next scoob. Which for a variety of reasons I have decieded will be a
MY 98 - 00 Classic JDM WRX.

1.Do they have the smaller TD04 Turbo like UK cars of the same year?
2.Do they also have the chocolate MAF like UK cars of the same year?

3.I prefer the older punchier TD05. How does a VF34 compare. What advantages does a VF34 have over TD05?

4.I take it you can get these JDM cars mapped to run on 95 ron fuel?
As I often fill up in Austria and 95 ron is all they seem to have alot of the time!

5.Any other weak points on these latter JDM Classics?
I know for example that the Powerstearing fluid and coolant reseviours were both weak on early WRXs but are of improved design on later cars.

6.I also assume that 4 pots will be on the fronts?
as opposed to 2 pots on the earlier cars.

Thanks
Cheers
Steve

1 & 2. Late WRX wagons use the same intake setup as UK cars. Saloons don't AFAIK.
3. Don't know
4. Yes, although why not just get a UK car and save the bother of remapping?

3. VF34 has a bit less lag, spools a bit lower, just a tad down on power.

Thanks for the info all

So therefore do late WRX saloons have a TD05 plus the stronger earlier version of MAF?

So to get this clear - On a standard MY98 WRX JDM saloon.

1. Will have the stronger earlier type MAF
2. Will have 4 pots on the front

Questions remaining

3. It can be remapped to run on 95ron fuel. (Does the ECU need changing on MY98 Cars)?
3. What turbo will it have TD04 or TD05?

Would prefer 280bhp out of the box and prefer the rawer feel of the JDM cars - I think a UK car would leave me a bit cold.

Cheers

Steve,

I have an MY98 WRX.

1. Will have the stronger earlier type MAF - Mine has done 3 1/2 years with no trouble. Its when you use an aftermarket induction kit with no mount for the maf (leaves the maf flapping about) that they tend to fail.

2. Will have 4 pots on the front - Mine came with 2 pot fronts.

3. It can be remapped to run on 95ron fuel. (Does the ECU need changing on MY98 Cars)? - You have to change the ECU on MY97/98 cars. PowerFC is a good choice.

4. What turbo will it have TD04 or TD05? - Mine has a VF29 but was originally supplied with a VF22 as they came from the factory. The earlier WRX's had the TD05.

Hope this helps.
