P0340 - so what does it mean?
I've got a PSi3 data monitor which reported a P0340 error about a year ago, with the CEL coming on permanently at the same time, (rather than flashing).
The problem went away but in the last couple of weeks has come back, I have reset the ECU a couple of times during this period because of changes in fuel (emergency fill up at a station) but it has returned each time within a few days.
The PSi3 manual details the error as:
p.s. I should add that the first time it came back on recently it was a day or so after these:

The PSi3 manual details the error as:
P0340 Camshaft position sensor circuit malfunction
However what exactly does this mean - does it mean the sensor/electrical circuit is faulty, or does it mean the camshaft position is wrong?
Also, what are the implications of this error, is it a precursor for something more serious or do I just need to replace a sensor/part?
Thanks, Rich.
p.s. I should add that the first time it came back on recently it was a day or so after these:
P0301 Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected
P0302 Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected
P0302 Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected

the bugeye random cel generator
lots of us get the p0340 after full blooded runs in first or second gear
don't bother reseting the ecu just restart the car 4 or 5 times
if its any thing like mine, you get the cel 3 or 4 times in a month then its fine for the next 6 months

Sounds familiar, only doing it after some hard driving. Sounds like it's standard bugeye functionality, Subaru's way of saying "stop caning your car!"
Do you also get the misfire CEL/errors?
