could be the sensor has started to die, and in doing so given an error,,,

poor starting will be the long term issue.....

take the sensor out and clean it,,, a s/h one is about 35 ish from grade a

it could also be a loose connection or wiring fault in the associated circuit

Thanks Mart

....I was worried that it might lead to my engine going bang like a failing MAF !!

WRX Rich

......I'm on 21K miles so not sure what to do, I'm glad is that it's not going to lead to imminent meltdown and vast wads of cash. I might get it replaced just for peace of mind.

Thanks guys

Shaun

mine gave that fault code for 20k miles and when i tested r=the sensor it was fine and seems to be a miss error on mine ...or werd sensor as it still comes up on start up on the motec..than goes away..but it is a known fault on the 2001+ cars ..chris

A very common WRX CEL - take it to the dealer (& tell them to look in the ECU's stored codes if they say it's fine ).

Thanks again

I'm going to get the dealer to look at it. The ECU has now stored the code as historic (according to the SECS) so the dealer should be able to see it with select monitor. I thought the newer MY02 with the radio ariel in the rear screen etc. had a newer and less sensitive ECU for these sorts of things.

I used to get CEL's with the decat so I can live with them but as this one lit up the car reallly did hesitate, not what I want overtaking an ASDA truck on the notorious A69 so I need to look further. I noticed that the AFR is dipping below 1.00 quite a bit and also wondered if the ITG filter I used to run has gunked up the MAF ??

Thanks again fo all the help

Midlife....

PS I have checked the pink badge and it still has that "Swissol" look D:
