Chimney peice next to intercooler?
This may sound a really silly question but the chimney part that sits next to the intercooler above the turbo, Its recently worked loose and all the bolts are now gone. I removed it as it was causing a hell of a noise.
Will it harm the car with it not there???

I believe it is just an air duct to direct air through the bonnet scoop onto the turbo to aid cooling it. Not fitted to later models, so shouldn't be a problem if removed

that chimney is also a heat shield and with out it the intercooler will soak up even more heat from turbo.Later models still have a heat shield over turbo just not chimney type so would put it back on imo.

it helps cool the turbo and is also a heatshield like hivis said so i would keep it on , also without that heatsheild the brake master cylinder and clutch master cylinder bottle and fluid may get to hot !!!

Thats when it became loose...
When I had my de-cat downpipe fitted.
Maybe something was missed off it then.
I'll have a look and try and get it back on
Or maybe when its a tad warmer I'll have a go
Thanks everyone

Yeah, it won't do much at all about cooling the turbo, but it will create a flow away from the engine bay so the turbo doesn't heat things up. If you remove it, get a turbo blanket or fashion something up.

it's pretty close to your brake fluid reservoir and your intercooler. I wore some trainers instead of steelies to work the other day and didn't drop anything on my foot, had no problems either
