Default Simultaneous TMIC & FMIC?

Anyone ever tried this before... installing a FMIC but keeping the original TMIC? Would it be theoretically beneficial... the TMIC keeping the lag down and the FMIC beneficial for higher power output?

Would take a fair bit of work to get the pipework to fit in the engine bay, and some DIY fabrication to "Y pipe" the two IC's together...

Would it work?

Would cause too far too much pressure drop flowing through both cores.

How would the TMIC keep lag down? You'll be running a FMIC setup too??

IMHO? No benefit.
The charge air would be cooled by the FMIC, passes to the TMIC which is hot due to the engine heat, so the charge air would be heated, not cooled.

The volume of both needs to be added together, and that volume of air has to be pressurised by the turbo, increasing the lag by a small amount.

Pipe work would be quite simple but very tight by the TMIC.

No, I don't think it would be worth it.

Graham.

You'd have the WORST of both worlds, not the best. You'd get worse lag than before because of a greater volume in the charge circuit, added to the downside of collecting heat from the TMIC at standstill.

Personally I'd rather have a charge cool set up, put on a FMIC with a pump and fill it with liquid, then run it back to where the TMIC sits and run it into a heat exchanger with a pipe from the turbo to the engine intake. This keeps the pipe from the turbo to the engine as short as possible and with an efficient heat exchanger you get very cool air. Have not seen one reasonably priced though, which is a shame as all you would need is a cheap FMIC, pump, some modded pipework and some way of watersealing the whole arrangement. The 'hard' part is the heat exchanger but there must be companies doing off the shelf heat exchangers for not much in the way of cost. I think if you went about it by modding a cheap FMIC then £500 would see you there. Always wanted to do it as a project but it would take hell of a time to make the first one up.

PWR make probably the best chargecoolers out there

Google Image Result for http://www.pwr-performance.com/images/barrel.jpg

Simon Norris evo is now sporting one of these inline with his intercooler as seen at the autosport show
