Been looking onto this re: my 2003 WRX. I've searched and others have had the same problem, a slight, half a second hesitation from either closed or barely open throttle, say 2000rpm, second gear. Jab the accelerator and she waits, just for a moment before going. Car pulls fine above this and runs better when hot.
Suggestions ranged from ht leads, to plugs to o2 and crank sensors. Has there been a definate answer for this issue? so many seem to have had the problem.
Apologies if the issues are not the same, don't want tp hijack the thread.

You can try looking at them in the pitch black (the darker the better!) with the engine running ... might sound strange but you will see any tracking or sparking and if the conductor has broken down in the HT lead you will see slight 'glowing' spots within in the lead.

Have a good look at the coil pack to see if any sparks jump to earth via the bracket and look down the whole length of the leads for glowing spots. If there are any it obviously indicates the dodgy lead and these can be bought individually from a dealer for about £15 (they are all different lengths by the way).

I am havin a very similar problem with my '98 WRX

People have suggested it may be the Lambda Sensor and to disconnect it then go for a drive
Seems wierd that so many people should get the same problem

i have some slight hesitation before also have found the problem to be crack hose near the boost solenoid sometimes due to age and hose becoming hard causing it to crack a little due to under bonnet heat
