Default How to confirm the thermostat has failed?

What are the steps to confirm one way or another (Classic STI V5)

Remove it a place in a Jug of freshly boiled water you should see it start to open immediately, Whilst you have gone to the trouble to remove it, Replace it with a new one as they can become intermittent
