Default STi Front Fog Air Ducting

I didn't know whether this was general technical, styling or what, so here goes:

I have an APS CAIK (wing mounted) and wanted to supply it more air via a ducting from the front fog cover.

I know there's one available from halfords (see Mick's car in the FS Section:
https://www.scoobynet.com/private-sa...-2003-a-2.html

Just wandered what others had done and where they got them from? Wanting something discreet, if possible.

Bit pricey those, £105 for a couple of holes in the fog light covers and ducting.

Nice website though.

Price does include a JR Panel Filter, otherwise it's £65 without.

He also puts a mesh grill behind the holes and will spray paint if needed.

I have standard subaru fog cover on te front of mine with and aluminium pipe plumbing air to the filter.

They come ready painted in the colour of your choice from Subaru.

There's a bit more information on here, but its a good mod.

The only problem with using this method on a wing mount air intake, is that if you don’t have the vast majority of the air ducted directly to the filter, the excess air will blow the back of the wheel arch liner out at high speed, due to the vast amount of air that the wrx foglight surround provides!

It would basically mean that you would have to encase the filter and have the ram pipe feeding directly to it!

Thought i'd found my option until i read this.

So the smaller Halfords/GRD ones are still best.

Frayz: Post up some pics if you can. Or PM me. What did you opt for.

lOOking at the size of that, i think it fits into the fog light cover arguement, of being too big.

the hole is a fair bit smaller than the fog surround that is there now, having said that im attaching some ducting to it to feed up to the engine bay anyway so dont have the other problem mentionned...

I also dont have too much left of the wheel trim either!

Hi Neil,

Are there any downsides to increasing the air pressure under the bonnet..? I seem to remember this being discussed on here once and there seemed to be an argument against it, although I can't think what it was..

tbh ive not heard of that, cant see as there would be though? it will all end up leaving via the scoop of under the car around the gearbox so id guess not....

Ill be getting a reverse scoop (vent) at some point so i guess it will escape from there

The pipe is the same diameter as the hole and runs all the way up to the engine bay.

There is nowhere for it to go, but up the pipe??

I'm still not clear why having a front duct is any better than keepingt he wing mount intake?
Its not as if there is going to be a lack of air under the wing and its going to collapse from the resulting vacuum.
My MAF temp shows no difference compared to the outside temp sensor so why do it?
Has there been some test carried out in the past to show these foglight intakes offer anything of benefit?

Nick

I've got a foglight intake (home made)which feeds to a pipe leading to an RCMS induction kit under the bonnet

Very worthwhile for underbonnet induction but like you I'm not sure about inner wing one's though !

Look nice though
