HELP!!Need to quiten down exhaust
Hi all
Got a 99 uk turbo wagon, and just recently bought a de-cat downpip off ebay..
Before this i just had standard downpipe and a H&S de-cat centre and a H&S 5"jap style angled tail pipe ,which sounded nice and deep, bit loud but now't overboard..(imo;perfect subaru burble.)
Now the downpipe's been fit, soon as i fire her up, the sound as nearly doubled, very heavy sounding burble on tickover, turning into a really throaty/raspy roar(no burble) on take off.....Just insane on owt bove 3.5k revs....
Just looking for ideas really,,,either take downpipe off, as is this whats creating the loudness,
Or get a different bacbox(but i like the jap style),or would a bung work and who do them ??
Also heard something about fitting a centre section with a resinator or something,,,,,again ..
Any help much appreciated
Driving me mad,and as spoilt the scooby driving experiance a bit for me , as i darn't nail it anywhere,as in fear of giving someone heart attack...
Cheers.....

What did you expect ?
you basically have a straight through flow from turbo to BB
Get a resonated center section fitted, should take most of the noise and bring back the burble you had before
Also the BB is a 5" lol
Get a smaller BB, or you could put in a bung to take some of the noise, but would loose a bit of power on that

What diameter downpipe is it? i had same problem on my last scoob, I bought a very small silencer that I was going to weld on the downpipe (in place of the cat) but sold the car before I fitted it. Still got it if you're interested.

I'd replace the back box. I replaced my jap style with a scoobysport back box, left the rest of the system decatted without a centre resonator and it sounds just right now in my opinion.
Try get along to a local meet and have a listen to some different systems, I'm sure you will be able to get rid of the back box on here, its full of noisy buggers lol.
Now stop waking the kids you chav !
