Default Slow Starting!!!!

Hi guys,
What can cause a '93 wrx to be slow starting from cold? spins over fast enough, but takes about 3-4 seconds to fire!

When engine is hot it fires straight away!

If engine is warm, ie left for half hour, then it takes the 3-4 seconds again.

........and to really throw a spanner in the works, if the car hasn't been started for a week or so then it'll fire straight away

wot u reckon?????

I can't see it would be the battery, if the cars spins over at a fair rate of knots

are there any sensors anywhere that could cause this?

Do you hear the fuel pump prime the rails when you turn the ignition on just before cranking ? if not this wont help as the engine is turning over while the fuel pump is building up the pressure , hense takes longer to fire .

If you can get hold of a timing gun , you can put the inductive pickup on to each lead and see if it has a spark on cranking .

If the battery is getting on then this could have an adverse affect on starting when the engine is being cranked. This is due to the battery not having enough power to feed all the other electrics whilst turning the starter motor. As the starter motor circuit has the lowest resistance thus takes the largest current. If possible either borrow a battery or try slave starting using a second battery, to see if this improves things. The other thing to try is cleaning all the earth connections which if they are coroded will limit the total power avaliable. Hope this helps Steve
