camshaft tightness?
I have just put the cams back in the heads and i have noticed that there is a difference between how tight the cams are to turn when the cam caps are on?
On both heads, the inlet cams will turn nice and freely by hand but the ex cams i need to use a bit of effort to turn them, they can be done by hand but not half as easy as the inlets, is this normal or do i have issues to deal with regarding the ex cams?

The caps aren't pinned, so it's possiblr to fit them slightly offset, even if you think they are straight.
Fit the caps one at a time, checking the cam is free. Sometimes you need to tap the cap forwards or backwards to centralise it. If you're not sure, take the cap off, and you will see a witness mark where it's rubbing.
Also, only use a VERY thin film of oil for checking, because thick assembley lube can lock the cam up.
Once you get them right, scribe the cap/head so you can refit them, and use the lube.
Mark.

it can only take 1 cap to be fitted the wrong way round or swapped with another for it to be tight
i by mistake fitted 1 cap on a GTO the wrong way round and that made the cam hard to turn, turned it round and all was fine
so make sure you sort this before you fire it up or it will seize

expanding on what has been said.. the caps have markings for location and which way around they do.. I know you said you have marked them.. just check the original markings for which way around.

i'm quite sure that i have the caps in the correct place, i drew on a bit of paper where they went and labeled the drawings with the cap numbers so that i didn't get it wrong, i will just have to have another look and see if i can see anything untoward!
