First time Modifications - MY99
I would like to improve the performance of my Scooby without going too mad... It has been suggested that I should change the exhaust and perhaps an Ait Filter/Induction kit...can anyone give me any help on this, also what would be the extra BHP...cheers: eek2:

On my MY99 UK I did:
HKS Hyper + SSport D-pipe
Blitz SUS
VF23
STi TMIC
Forge Recirc
3pt Solonoid
ECUTEC from Bob Rawle
It was a fantastic road setup and I still remember it as being the best scoob I had (then went on to have a modified STi5 RA and a JDM9)

Using a decent pannel filter like a K&N or Sti is perfectly acceptable at moderate power levels, but you can use induction kits on these.
The problem is vibration and not the actual kit itself imo, if you get a kit which will secure the maf housing from vibration then you should be ok.
I have a pipercross induction kit on mu MY99 and all is well because, IMO it is because it's bolted to a bracket attached to the car and therefore will not flop around causing/helping the MAF to fail,
I know they are fragile and i know the reputation, but just to add a relevant point before i get shot down in flames, i have had an engine failure, and that was with the std airbox fitted.
Speak to a reputable tuner for advice if your unsure, but i'd be looking at a full decat (RCMS or revolution) and a decent filter of some kind, and yes it will be easier to fit a K&N in your std airbox than it is to fit an induction kit, ported headers and a different up pipe (from Harvey Smith is the best option imo)
your car will be able to cope with these mods without having to do anything else.
When the quest for more power takes over, as it surely will, you will need to do more such as another turbo and remap etc.

Decat/sports cat exhaust, uprated panel filter, fuel pump, remap. Will get you about 270bhp with similar torque.
Stage two:
See the following thread
https://www.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-...xperience.html
Avoid induction kits (not worth the hassle at this stage) and VTA dump valves; std one is perfectly good.
Install a knocklink to keep an eye out for det; you never know when you may get an iffy batch of petrol.
