Decat Downpipe=MOT Pass????
I have Decatted my downpipe on my 2001 classic but still retain the centre cat for MOT purposes, what i want to know is WILL IT PASS AN MOT????
I have done a search and found 1001 threads on this matter but what all of them lack is a simple YES or NO,
Please dont comment if you dont know, i am looking for honest answers from people who have been through an MOT test with only the centre cat in place, please do not tell me what you think may happen or what happened to your brothers mates dog when he did it.
Short, Sharp and to the point please,
I need to know if i will have to replace the downpipe cat everytime i have an MOT
Cherrs, Dave M

I have the PPP centre resonator in at the moment but have the original centre pipe with cat in my garage to put on when MOT time draws near,
Mine is a classic not a newage so maybe the emission levels vary when the downpipe is decatted,
I cant find a friendly tester because the whole system has changed and your exact emission levels are recorded and sent away so it is no longer possible to pay off the tester,
Regaurding the SS all the way through post- there needs to be a cat no matter what the emission levels, with no cat at all it would fail the MOT before the emisions were even measured, and then even if they were i am pretty sure it would fail as the emissions would be higher than the threshold

it is still possible to fiddle the system
I know several high performance cars with no cats that get through.
but if you genuinly cant find one to pass then yoru just gonna have to get ur cat back on - its onyl a few bolts though

WRX with decat downpipe still has 2 cats in place, as there is one in the up-pipe and the centre. Borderline, probably worth a try.

Its not a WRX its a turbo 2000 so only has 2 cats as far as i am aware,
from the information im getting i summise that if the engine is hot enough i can get through the MOT with just the centre cat in, which is good news really cos changing the downpipe every year would be a pain.
As for knowing a friendly tester it aint just about paying a guy a tenner and he will turn a blind eye to the lack of cats its the emission results that HAVE to be provided, unless he just types some random figures into the computer which gets put on some kind of national database then its very hard to cheat.
