hiya!
just picked car up with brand new plugs fitted and after re-setting the ecu all seems fine!!

Symptoms sound like the boost solenoid and pipework need cleaning out, or maybe you have had a bad batch of fuel. Has your engine oil level been overfilled at some point ? This causes the solenoids to get oiled up and boost control is affected.

how do you clean the boost solenoid mate? would that be causing my 0.4 boost drop?

managed to get hold of a MAF from a good member on here so hopwe that solves it

If its a classic see if you have any fault codes, some of these could be historic codes so worth clearing them then repeating the test after a normal drive to see if any occur.

Didn't the new maf sort it out then ?
To clean the boost solenoid you need to disconnect the pipes from the solenoid, then join the green test mode connectors behind the dash together and turn the ignition on, this will put it in test mode and the fans will start going and the solenoid will start clicking. Squirt brake cleaner into it to remove any oil residue. Squirt the pipes too.
Turn ignition off, disconnect test mode connectors, put pipes back on and give it a try.

lol - cheers guys - i bought a MAF off ebay which i think was f**ked. luckily i have bought a much better one off scooboy from this site - getting it fitted saturday.

If the solenoid is dirty then it can cause hesitation and make it feel like it is holding back. Dodgy coil packs can also cause similar symptoms but from your post I'm working on the basis these have been replaced for new ones, as well as it having new plugs.
It's worth giving the solenoid a try, it's a quick job and only needs a tin of brake cleaner for a few quid.
Are you certain the maf is no good ? Early mafs are usually quite reliable, it's only really the ones in late classics 99/00 that usually pack up on a regular basis.
You seem to be replacing parts in an elimination process but don't seem to have said you have had any of them confirmed as knackered. It's an expensive way of doing it.
Have you had someone check it for faults using a select monitor ? It may be cheaper to have it looked at professionally than keep replacing stuff.
The other thing that can cause hesitation at low revs is the oxygen sensor, although it won't cause the car to underboost.
How many miles has the car done ? Does it have service history with it showing what has been done.
