Default MY98 UK2000 Boost Pressure

My first and definately not last subaru, its a my98 reddish blue 2000 turbo, its got a few mods ie bov & full 3" decat system + panel filter. Im impressed with its performance but just wondered if anyone out there could help me with what boost pressure it should run.

Its currently reading 9psi on my gauge! is this right?.
If so what could I safely run & whats the best value for £ electronic contoller I could purchase.

Your help would be gratefully apreciated.

Cheers Carl.

Hi Carl. Welcome to Scoobynet I believe that your car should run 0.9 bar as standard which is 13 psi. Stupid question, but are you sure that the gauge is in psi and not bar? You wouldn't be the first to make that mistake! You can run up to 1.3 bar (19 psi) on standard internals in relative safety. There are various boost controllers available from such as apexi and blitz (both of these are widely used) but make sure that it's fitted by somebody who knows what he is doing

Its definately around 9psi on the gauge, im guna try & reset the ecu & clean out the boost solinoid tomoz, ive been running it on 99 octane for a few weeks so a reset should hopefully cure it.

Hi and welcome good chioce got a 97 reddish blue myself. 9 psi is defo down on boost mine reads 15 psi and in respect to the last comment must be in psi as won't be running 9 bar for sure! Time to get it setup on a rolling road me think will highlight any problems and get it set to 15-16 psi think fuel cut is 17 psi. Can only mean more fun!!!

What I meant was 0.9 bar being read as 9 psi

If you want to up your boost pressure I really would consider an aftermarket ECU (because of the MY of your car) and proper remap by an expert, not just a boost controller!! Trying to get performance out of a scooby on the cheap often ends up in tears.

If you insist on getting a manual controller have it set up by someone with a wideband AFR guage and det cans to make sure the car is running safely.

If you don't, I'd put David at APi engines on your speed dial, cause chances are you're going to need him sooner rather than later!

I think on my quest for more power, im going to purchase a apexi power fc & have it properly mapped.

These seem like excellent value for money im not too keen on just cranking the boost up as ive seen the consequences this can lead to before.

Ive reset my ECU and my car seems to behave slightly better with the boost holding at 12psi rather than the 9psi it was before.

Thanks for everyones advice.

Question

If you reset your ECU this way do you lose any remapping that has been done ?
