What turbo is on your wagon? That Z4 is mapped to run a TD-05.

To answer your question, I ran a Z4 with optimax/sul and no booster and had no probs. Reset the ECU to get the best from it.

It would be advisable to have your AFRs checked on a wide band lambda and fit a Knock Link. I assume you have a boost guage. If not get the boost level checked when checking your AFRs. There may be more to come.

Boost guage: To measure what boost you are running and related to what the standard car runs.
AFR: Air Fuel Ratio. Between 14 and 15 : 1 off boost. 13 : 1 on boost and 11.3 : 1 at 1.5 bar all approximate and depending on engine.
Knock Link : A guage that detects pre-ignition or detonation. Cost £120 - £150. Available from BRD and others.
DET is a bad thing and ruins engines.
Running lean results in high EGTs and also ruins engines.

Where are you located?
It needs to be someone with a wideband lambda, preferably with Subaru experience but certainly with turbo experience.
