Default low boost pressure

I only recently bought my MY99 wagon and am generally very pleased with it.

I noticed that the car seemed hessitant on fast acceleration after the initial turbo boost, so have fitted a pressure gauge. Now I can tell that the turbo cuts in nicely and the boost pressure rises smoothly up to 10psi (0.7 bar) then the gauge pointer flickers at 10psi and I can hear a light ticking/rattle which I think may be the solenoid operating? I have checked the ecu and no error codes are shown. I appear to have a 2 port solenoid and have tried to clean it with brake cleaner but it may have all evaporated by the time I drove at boost.

Should I try to clean the pipes again or should I check elsewhere?

You need to clean the solenoid in diagnostic mode, not when driving, do a search on here for guide.

I removed the solenoid this evening and gave it a good blast through with cleaner although I did not do this in diagnostic mode however as the light was very quickly fading. The fluid did seem to shift some muck at first but when I took the car up the road the car still stuttered at 10/11 psi.

Anyone have any ideas?

I wondered if it may be due to the plugs or coil pack what does anyone else think?

Does yours only misfire at those revs? I find that mine will mis-fire or splutter regardless of gear selected and even at lower revs but always when I try to accelerate smartly using the turbo. I have not noticed any other mis-fire when not using the turbo hence I thought it may be the boost solenoid.

BTW good to see some yokels on ere I'm near Devizes.

I have replaced the plugs which was not as bad a job as I had expected. I also took the opportunity to clean the MAF (someone had made a small hole in the gauze filter for this) and blasted some cleaner through the T piece pipes.

The wagon now accelerates and runs much smoother but I am still only getting 10 psi boost and then the car seems to be hessitating. I can hear a high pitched rattle through the gauge which may indicate the pressure is being restricted? It seems to be regardless of revs and happens when I press the loud pedal. I have no error codes on my ecu and am not sure what to do next without throwing money away on sensors until it goes away.

Forgot to add that the plugs were a good light brown colour which on normally aspirated cars indicates correct mixture.
