Fuchs Titan Supersyn SL 5W40, 25 litre drum from Euro Car Parts is about 86 quid. Superb oil and a cracking price, if you don't mind bulk buying. Will do for 5 full drops and 2.5 litres left for top-ups, working out at about 15.50 per oil change

Depends which Millers. Some of their fully synthetic range is now quite old and is lagging behind much of the current specification for top quality oils. This statement was made to me by oilman, and he seems to know his stuff. I had been using Millers CFS fully synth 5W40 until my last change when, under advice from Simon at Opie, I opted for the Fuchs Titan Supersyn and I can tell my car is running noticeably smoother. 60 rated is also quite thick unless you are regularly on track, extreme mods (over 370bho) or have very high mileage IMHO.

Default Thanks for the replies

Thank's v much. I did do some home work myself but all i really learned was that fully synthetic 0W-40 shell helix or 5W-40 Magnatec was most suitable. Can you buy the described FUCHS of the shelf somewhere ?

0W is too thin, and Magnatec is a mineral based hydrocracked semi with a high polaric ester content. I'd use neither.

Fuchs is available over the counter from any EURO CAR PARTS. The big savings are had when you buy the 25 litre drum for 86 quid. Seems a lot to lay out, but any decent synth is usualy around 40 quid, and the thieving swines often do 4 litre bottles meaning you either need two 4 litre bottles (80 quid ), or a 1 litre at an inflated price to get the 4.5l you need.

What the F**K was that about the magnatec ????

You've inadvertantly answered my next question which was, how much do i need for a full change.
See what you mean about those robbers selling it in a 4 ltr bottle!
Will definately invest in a 25 ltr drum. Just have to track down my nearest EURO CAR PARTS.
Thanks mate

Oilman is really the best person to talk to.

I would only go with Silkolene or Motul

look here https://www.scoobynet.com/opie-oils-august-t538051.html

This is what Oilman said when I asked him about the Fuchs Titan Supersyn SL...

Fuchs Titan Supersyn SL, fully synthetic 5W40

ACEA A3, B3, B4
API SL/CF
VW 502.00 & 505.00
MB 229.1

Fuchs Supersyn Plus fully synthetic 5W40

ACEA A3, B4
API SL/CF
VW 500.00 & 505.00 & 505.01
MB 229.1
Ford WSS-M2C 917A

I'd appreciate your opinion on these, and perhaps a little background as to what all the numbers mean. I realise that the manufacturer ones are probably approval for use in specific vehicles or engines.

Regards,

David.
David,

Thanks for the pm.

Both of these are very good quality oils, made from PAO synthetic base stock (similar to mobil1).

The API and ACEA specs are up to date and suitable for both petrol and diesel engines.

The Fuchs Titan Supersyn Plus is also designed for the new age Diesel engines from VW.

Both very good oils.

Cheers

Guy.
...but he never replied when I asked him about whether the price I had been quoted from EuroParts was a good one. When I subsequently checked the price on his website I can see why he didn't reply.
