Default "Running Water Noise"

Hi, I have just started getting a running water sound from under the dash board which after reading many threads, Is an Air lock.
My question is obvious.
How do you clear it.
I have just drained down the entire system then refilled through the header tank.
I ran the car on idle with the heater on full and the header tank cap off untill the water started heating up . approx 10 mins and topping up when the level dropped.
I then ran with the cap on till it was hot enough to kick the fan in. 15 - 20 mins.
trouble is that I can still hear the damn sound.
any ideas???????????

Hey Gaz, No, The Car does not overheat,The temp guage sits on normal when up to temp, The heater itself works fine and the system all pressurize's fine and water level not dropping at all.
I'm all confused

alright mate it may just! be a simple air lock in the system which sometimes requires more than just leaveing the filler cap off for a while as it warms up do both the water pipes from the bulkhead get warm/hot when the vehicle up to temp? hve you tried back filling the system?

I had the same problem when I first aquired my impreza. Apparently the heater matrix is prone to air locks due to its shape and position. You must have run low in your header tank at some point or something.

I thought it might be a head gasket, and was quite paranoid at the time. On new years eve the top pipe burst due to fatique, I topped up the system to replace what was lost after fitting a replacement pipe, it didn't gurgle as much afterwards. And eventually it cleared itself, it doesn't happen anymore.

So I think the system must be drained and/or refilled in the right way to minimise the possibility of air locks. I read a thread on here at the time on the supposed correct way to refill the system, and the author claimed to have cured his air lock problem through using it.

Hope that helps, and sorry to drone on.

elevate the car at the front so that the main radiator is higher then the matrix under the dash, re-bleed and see if that clears it, the air should want to come upwards, if you know what i mean?

cool, at least you got it sorted, one of the things you tried would have been the catalyst for it to sort itself out for sure
