Default Costs of Rotated Garrett

I have a TwinScroll car pretty much at the limits of the Turbo. 377/376.

Id love to pass the 400/400, but a suitable Garrett Hybrid is going to be in the region of £1500+. Approx £50 per bhp.

For that kind of money, what could I get in the way of a GT30R rotated?

Bear in mind I will need (minimum)

New up-pipe,
Turbo
New downpipe
Intake pipe.

I have an APS front mount, so Ill also have to make/buy a pipe to connect to that outlet.

Its gotta be over £2K? Hasnt it?

What's your block? Standard? If so, i'd consider up rating that before the turbo.

Otherwise, consider the Perrin kit from the US. It seem's pretty good for the money.

Perrin kit is designed for a LHD car so there may be fitment issues.

you need lots of cash for this swap as im near the end of doing it !! mine will be on next month !!!! i have a built 2 ltr engine but i didnt realise all the extra costs involved you would need the turbo and all oil and water pipes etc, up and down pipes, external wastegate, aftermarket headers, paralel fuel rails and 800cc minimum injectors, larger filter, and ecu that doesnt rely on a MAF there will be more but thats just off the top of my head the only thing so far you have going for you is the APS fmic

Its gotta be over £2K? Hasnt it
id realistically say in your case id times it by at least 4 unless you already have a built engine ???

oops forgot to add a biggun which most peeps forget about and its the clutch price one of those up and it will give you a shock

Looking into this myself so would be very interested if anyone can suggest an economical solution. Think there could be enough interest in a group buy but from who?

BTW, don't forget to add the costs of an uprated gearbox too.

Playsatan - I thought the SBR-14 you got from the states gave you all the power you needed?

iirc:
Scoobymania have all you need and have prices too for the Garrett twisted turbo in Classic and New Age. Turbo, w/gate anf pipes.

I guess you are thinking of a twin plate clutch? £1200, but there is a '2000 miler' in the for Sale section, no price, and no interest in it.

My engine is standard internals and clutch. But still living well with 370 odd bhp/torque. Shaun is running around the same on his car.

I have got a boxed Exedy clutch waiting for the right time, in my garage. Compliments of one of our great group buys.

Injector wise, I am looking at PE650,s at the moment.

I didn't want to go on a huge budget (although I could) as I probably only have 18 months ownership left (It would be nice for the next owner though!), so I wanted to get some AST's as well to actually use this power properly.

It looks like I may as well think about the hybrid after all then!

Steve, It looks like you are heading for mid 400's?. Are you changing the headers as well as the pipework? I was hoping to find some form of converter up pipe.
I think we will all be paying close attention to your efforts.

im heading for as close to 500bhp and over i can get i kept my V2 headers from my last car and because mine is a rotated mount turbo i had to buy garret rotated pipes. if i were you i would forget about rotated and get an SBR12 turbo ?? its a hybrid garret which is direct subaru fit !! that way your 650cc injectors will just about do and all you need is new headers, up pipe and downpipe. any of these from a classic impreza will fit your car fine

here is a link to the sort of turbo im describing and you will see some very good results

oops for got to add if you do go for a hybrid twin scroll get the garret one !! you will still need larger injectors and fit aftermarket headers for the twin scroll that way i think you may see a bigger improvement!!!

here is a quick piccy of my new turbo, its a little on the small side but i think it will do

Finances dictated that I never got the -14 Russell, ended up I had to go with the -12 as Stevebt suggests.

The blurb with it goes,

500bhp garrett SBRGT30 Hybrid turbo. Additioanal porting by Garrett in the US.

Compressor side:
• 56 "trim" compressor wheel
• 2.24" inducer
• 3.00" exducer
• 55 lb/min compressor wheel

Turbine side:
• 2.16" exducer
• 2.36" major

This SBR GT series Turbo is a 'Hybrid' Turbo based around the renowned Garret GT 30 with a custom cast exhaust housing specifically for use with Subaru mounting. A/R .58 - .60

I've found it to be a very cost effective turbo as you can keep all of your original pipes and it has an integrated w/gate but to unleash the full potential of my engine I'll have to go rotated sooner or later. I'm afraid that my current spec just doesn't cut the mustard in Central Scotland these days.

I hate to tell you Steve, but if you rotate it THAT much you wont be able to shut your bonnet!

That's not a Twin Scroll though, is it?

How close to the 500, did you get?

Ill be happy with 401/401. I just want to be in the 2.0 Scooby 400plus club

In fact, I don't really want to go over that by much, as by then Ill start to stress the other parts too much.

No, not a twin scroll. As for power, I won't know for sure till the 2nd September as it booked in for a rolling road day. It certainly feels a lot stronger than the 20g I swapped it for but so it should, the hot side is massive compared to it.

I'm afrsid I'll never be in that club myself as I run a 2.33 now.

I wonder sometimes where id be if Id kept my type R.
I had a 20g, spanking new 2.5 and a boxed set of GruppesV2 in my garage. Sold the lot when I bought this one.

2.33 seems to be more reliable, but then I think most are 'built' engines where as a lot of 2.5 are 'as production' US engines.

PMSL! I most certainly hope it's NOT me!

I'm going as far as an STI5 speeder will take me. Stuff paying 2k+ for a box/kit that still isn't indestructable. That would destroy me, if it broke=not worth it.

I'd imagime all 2.33 are built motors as you have to open them to chnage the crank. Hope you're right about the reliability though.

I guess I'd better take that twin plate off your hands then. £100?

Let me see....

Original four pots = check
Pads of unknown origin = check
Grooved discs with no grooves left = check
Sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach flying into the hairpin at Knockhill = check

Yup, sorted.

Lol. At least you'd use them to their potential, more than someone we know.
