Default VF23 or...

What are the limitations of this Turbo??

I've been offered a low mileage VF23 for my MY99 UK Turbo in an attempt to reach my 290bhp and 300ft/lb final goal.. supporting mods will be as follows:

Full 2.5" Decat Exhaust
Green Panel Filter
Walboro 255
SARD FPR
Hybrid FMIC (a bit of track work and prolonged back road sessions predicted before I'm told its overkill )
Tek3 ReMap from Andy F

I want a Turbo that is very similar in spool to the TD04, but carries it all the way through the rev range.. Is the VF23 a sound choice??

Cheers,
Grant

VF34/35 would be a better choice, but depends on price I guess. VF23 will get to your goal, but compressor blades are a known weak point so if you have any intention of going further later on, it is not the turbo to choose (anything much more than 1.45 bar and a failure is not far away).

Have a look at this link mate,

Should be of interest to you. I'd port and wrap the hearders if I were you, especially as keeping it as similar to the Td04 is important to you. You'll also most likely need/want a 3 port solenoid with the uprated turbo (ask Andy though, mappers differ in their preference)

I got the following results on mine (assuming you dont want to read the review) You should be good for the same if you do the headers, perhaps more as you have a FMIC.

VF35 is very good indeed. Noisey bugger though!! But I like that!

Unless you modified the airbox in some way you'll not get FMIC pipework in with an airbox, as for your power target, with a little bit of OB I got 342bhp and 320ftlb on VF23, hybrid FMIC, ported headers and full 2.5 decat and LINK ecu and that'll put up with being on track all day long without dying. Boost target is 1.4 tailing off to 1.2 at the top end.
