Question

Hi people, I am back on here again.
I need some advice from you
These are the mods that I have done to my MY99 WRX so far:

PPP ECU
Downpipe+full free flow exhaust (3")
K&N airfilter
Cold air induction kit
Electronic boost control
I/C water spray kit

At the present moment the car boosts about 1.15 bar when the outside temperature is very cold(anything higher and the fuel cut kicks in), and nothing more than 1.0 bar when its warm.

I have been considering fitting a VF23 turbo, here in SA its considered the ultimate WRX mod.
I would like to know what are the pro`s and cons of this mod and what gains in KW I can expect??

Also, can I keep the PPP ECU when fitting a VF23?? and what boost levels can one expect with a VF23??

Sorry about all the questions, but here in SA everybody has a different opinion about this mod.

I still have the surging/spiking problem, but I have grown used to it. I actually believe that its the wastegate actuator spring that is faulty.

What other mods can you people reccomend???

Thanks in advance

The turbo is the standard MY99 unit, and the VF23 that I am talking about is a turbo
Sorry, I had to edit the post because of a mishap, I inadvertedly posted the message before completing it

Cool

Pitzi. Just go for the MY03 STi and sell me the PPP!

I dont have a VF23 but from what I have seen and heard it is not so much about running more boost. The VF23 should hold its boost to redline unlike the standard TD04 which really runs out of steam at higher revs. Obviously the VF23 comes in at higher revs than the TD04.
Andrew/Unix Manager from the club had good results in a MY00 Wagon with PPP and VF23. He also has a WRX intercooler and some other bits. Maybe mail him for details. He was getting about 150KW at the wheels on "high" boost.

IMVHO go for a hydrid or a VF29,24,28.
My MY00 had before the TEK3 from John Banks PPP complete package, Magnex downpipe, PE ex.manifold and for a short time before the remap the VF29 which is slight better in terms of response compared with the 24-28 and much better than the 23.What I can say is that you need remap in case you fit an upgraded turbo except a TD04 hydridized in order to take the best from it. My car now flies but I would prefer more low down (<3000) torque. John Banks (and other gurus of course) could give you more info about as he had in his car all the above combinations.
Good luck in your modifications.

For bang for the buck and a nice all rounder, the VF23 has it IMHO.

I went for a hybrid VF28 and get 1 bar at 2900 RPM in top gear, and it will hold whatever I dare to the red line. Seems to flow more like a VF22 than a VF28 but double the price of a standard VF.

Pitzi, old buddy old pal...don't you think your surging/spiking is because your EBC's sensitivity is set too high...?
