Pipe broke from engine, please help
Hi all.
My Scooby (1999 UK Turbo) has been idling for some time now, so I booked in a service. I've been away so my cousin took care of it.
Had a service done about 2 weeks ago, and the cam belt done on Tuesday. When I picked it up it was Idling worse, and on 3 occasions stalled when there were no revs, even whilst moving.
On closer inspection I nocitved a pipe had come parted from a part on the engine, I am affraid a "driving" car fan and know nothing about under the bonet. Check out this image so you know where it is, then the second one is a zoomed images.

Is this a sealed unit? Can I fix it? Or do I need to take to a garage?
Thanks for your time and help.
Paul.

Not worth trying to "fix it" in my opinion.
Either buy an aftermarket dump valve <shudders at the thought >
or get one from someone who has done a front mounted intercooler conversion.
I bet there are loads of people oon here that have the standard dump valve kicking round in the garage.

Thanks for reply, I've not actually had a Dump Value fitted to any of my cars, so I am still ponderng on the idea, although I know I will become fed up of it in about a week. But if I got a Baileys DumpValue would this fix my problem? Then I can look round for a standard one to replace once I get fed up?

As said not worth trying to fix it,A baileys would work and cure the problem while you searched for an o/e one.Dont drive it like it is as its pulling air straight into the inlet manifold and could be running lean.If you blocked the pipe up it would probably idle ok,but the dump valves not gonna dump the air so thers a risk of turbo damage.

Excellent, Thanks turbotits.
Anyone reading got a Baileys DV to fit a 99 UK Turbo, before I start searching the classifieds?
Thanks again.

Just plug the hose, it'll drive ok. Just avoid closing the throttle shut too quickly when its on boost.
A subaru mechanic did the same to my valve too...but the devious mechanic covered his tracks and superglued in a piece of brake pipe instead....which lasted about 3 months.
If you want to keep it stock you should find another 2nd hand easy enough, just make sure it is for the same model year, as ealier models had different valves that won't fit. No need for the expense of stupidly priced aftermarket dump valves
IIRC last time I looked a geniune is about £70
You could try fixing it if you want. I guess if both sufaces were cleaned back to shiny metal it could be brazed or fixed in with some epoxy weld or araldite.
