do an ecu check to find out what fault code it gives.

did it feel like it was at a flat spot up the hill? like you were giving it some right foot but it seemed to not be doing anything then boof on came the CE light?

Bit of a poser but id shoot for oil pressure. Check the oil level, low level in the sump means the oil pump isnt fed properly when you go up hill. If that isnt it then there are a huge number of things it could be.

I've had a similar problem on a few occasions and the last time the CEL light stayed on until I had the ecu reset by Subaru.

The error code in the log was "Engine Missfire Detected"

It's fine on boost but sometimes lumpy <3k rpm's.

If it is missfire you need to get the Ecu checked i think. In the old days you could use a timing lamp and turn the distributer. These days i think all this is controlled by the "brain" or ECU.
