Default replacement turbo help...

I have a 99 V5 STI. Was getting a timing belt done today when the garage informed me that when they unbuckled the FMIC pipe to the turbo, they got a nice wee pool of oil deposited. Went over and had a look, and its not 'alot' but its not exactly a good sign.

They reckoned the turbo is on the way out. they have also given me the choice of a couple of turbos he has in stock.

A brand new VF34 hybrid. has some work done to the wastegate so it'll work better with the downpipe i believe. Looking for £795

A used VF28. good order, £550.

I've found a fewof VF28's for alot cheaper (200 odd quid). My question is... is it worth moving to a VF34 for this price? car has equal lenth manifold, downpipe and FMIC, but is on std management. tbh it feels quick enough for me already, but should i believe what they are telling me about VF34 being quicker spooling and having a longer life span. Any help appreciated.

this is what i was wonderin. I take it it would need the remap for a VF34. mech seemed to be of the opinion that i could just use a boost controller!?

Anyone know if there are any big difference between VF28 and 34 perfromance wise?
