Re-map, uprated fuel pump required?
Had my '01 WRX remapped last year, still a cat in the downpipe and set up for 1.3bar boost, power is circa 260HP & torque 270ft lb's.
I know many fit an uprated 255 fuel pump after a re-map, I haven't and my mapper did not feel it necessary at the time I had the map..
As I am running the same BHP as a PPP'd WRX (although higher boost and torque), and Prodrive do not fit an uprated pump, is it really neccessary to uprate the pump at this level of tune? I'm not planning on any more mods to the car... cheers

If your mapper recons your IDC is ok then (provided he's reputable) it should be fine. TBH at your current level it isn't nec to upgrade fuel system (other than via mapping).
BTW who mapped it..?

Mapped by PE so yep reputable for sure, I am just curious as to why some mappers say you need an uprated pump and some (inc Prodrive) don't.. I'm planning on getting it on a RR again in the next month or so for a health check, so fueling will be checked over then..

If you have a Knocklink on your car, it'll tell you if the fuel pump starts to die and your car begins to run lean.

I believe its really only the classics that are usually advised to change the pumps. The newer cars from what I have read have better pumps anyway. I uprated mine but that was on a classic that is nearly 13 yrs old

In your cars current state of tune the standard pump is fine.
An uprated pump is normally used if the injectors are changed,
and this is usually for big power mods.
I know the classic pump is good for around 300bhp but not sure
about the newage cars.
Take a look at Andy Forest's site, it has some very good information
on tuning.

I had my MY01 WRX remapped last November and had the fuel pump changed as a precaution.
It wasn't a necessity but as NS04 said, better to be safe than sorry and that was the advice of my mapper too.
I think it's matter of personal choice and piece of mind.

With a new downpipe, uppipe and turbo, 300bhp may not be too far away.....

I won't be doing anymore on mine, had the up-pipe done, want to stick with the OE downpipe cat, so I guess I'll need to think about changing the pump if i ever go to the next stage..
