Default Help!! Engine light

Hi All

Need some help!! I have a STI V3. When driving the engine check light comes on I put the car in neutral and let the revs idle and the light goes out. I had a fault check done at cheam motors and come up with air flow sensor and idle control valve. I have cleaned the control valve as told by cheam motors and replaced the air flow sensor (£180 ).

After driving around for about a hour on pops the light again!! I don't know what to do. Can anyone help!!

It costs me £25 per check and a weeks wait . I will have to get the ecu reset again and then do another check. Just seeing if anyone has had the same probs!!

check the error codes yourself

ECU Reset and Error codes

Turn OFF the ignition

Connect Error code Connectors :
2 black connectors under dash, connect black to black, they are by your left knee when sat in the drivers seat and often taped back to the loom if they haven't been used before.

Turn ON ignition but don't start the engine

Check engine light error code is indicated by Pulsing lamp

If an error is detected then Check the ECU Code

An Error Code is indicated by a flashing check engine light
of varying length of flash,
a flash of around once a second is the okay code and indicates all is well.

If an error code is detected Check the ECU Code

Error Codes

An Error code is defined as a slow flash followed by fast flash
i.e 2 slow and 3 fast = 23 Mass Airflow sensor.
A continuous on/off at the same speed is no fault found.

Code Fault
11 Crankshaft position sensor

12 Starter switch

13 Camshaft position sensor

21 Engine coolant temperature sensor

22 Knock sensor

23 Mass air flow sensor

24 Idle air control solenoid

31 Throttle position sensor

32 Oxygen sensor

33 Vehicle speed sensor 2

35 Purge control solenoid valve

42 Idle switch

44 Wastegate control solenoid valve

45 Pressure sensor / Pressure exchange solenoid valve

51 Neutral position switch

Reset the ECU. (loads of links on here). Give the ECU time to learn new settings. I had exactly the same thing. When MAF shows up on fault codes Idle solenoid usually does as well. I have a version 3 Sti as well, unfortunately the MAF is the expensive one.

I have reset the ecu checked the codes all clear, Then went out for a drive light come on I stopped and done another check and come up with code 24 (Idle air control solenoid) does this mean it needs replacing and will it do any damage if I keep driving.

Thanks guys

try cleaning it.. there are from memory two bolts and it comes off (one electrical plug too) just watch the little round seal / guard doesn't drop out..

clean it out with WD40 etc..

If that fails i might have a spare.

Cleaned it out and no luck still doing it. So it's got to be a new. Is a WRX one the same as the STI V3 one?

Thanks

Paul

I thought I posted a clue but post not there.. sorry..

Sounds like you found it anyway.

If you read the number off the top I'll check it with the one I have out in the garage, as per PM message, I'll also take a pic..

Thanks
