Default WHAT'S WRONG

I was giving my car a bit tonight down some country roads when it started making a banging noise when i get the revs up. Also when i come to a stop it cuts out. Anyone know what is wrong? Whatever it is it sounds bad!

Its a 98 wrx type r. It is noticable at low revs but when you put your foot down it starts making a quite loud banging noise and it also seems to fuel cut too. That happens when your at about 4k rpm

Sounds like it needs looking at by someone who knows about these things, worst case scenario bottom end..... also in an ideal world, get it looked at before driving it any more....

There is no smoke and i cant really get my foot down because it starts to jerk like a fuel cut although i know it isnt that because it has an apexi which i dont think has a fuel cut. Could it be piston problems anyone ?

With the apexi you me hitting 100% IDC or the maf maybe maxing out. When the weather is really cold i get that with my car, which is also running an apexi.
