Poor starting and error code help, please!
Hi, my94 wrx is the car. within the last week or so, car has been hard work to start from cold but when warm runs as good as ever. have changed plugs and temp sensor but still no good. Today, a friend told me to do sensor check with green and black plugs, which i have done and it produced the error code 43. i have a short bit of video which i can email anyone who can help as i'm not 100% sure that i've read the flashes right. what is error code 43? and can anyone show me where this sensor is, as the temp sensor was well hidden.
any help would be gratefully received,
Many thanks
rob

43 is accelerator pedal switch - It is a microswitch on the top of the accelerator pedal arm, near where the cable is connected to it.
Check the switch for on/off operation - you should be able to hear it clicking.
Also, disconnect the 2-wire blue connector for the switch and check for continuity with a multimeter.
I have only seen this fault code on one occasion, and it turned not to be the switch at fault - the spring that returns the throttle pedal had broken, causing the switch to remain in one position, IYSWIM

The switch signals to the ecu that it should be idleing, as the throttle is not being depressed, which could possibly be causing start up problems.
Check out the switch for correct operation, then reset the ecu and see if the problem still occurs.
If you want to mail the vid. clip to ric_cope@yahoo.co.uk , i'll gladly take a look.

fiestaboy - hi, had a look at the switch, on pressing and releasing the go faster pedal, u can hear the switch clicking. however, if i unplug it completely and start the car, it makes no difference as to when it was plugged in and the car does it's poor start and within a couple of minutes the cars fine. until then, if u push the accel pedal, it splutters a bit.
what do u think, could it be knackered switch?

spoke to local dealership today, and was told the switch part is now obselete. this is because they used them on the pedal from 1993-1995. can anyone confirm this? or has anyone got one lying around for me to try, will gladly line your pocket with silver.
does anyone else have a view...
