Default Very bad misfire - please help!!!

Urgent help needed.

Have a '93 WRX, has developed a very bad misfire.

Drove it earlier and the misfire got worse, along with 2 bangs from the exhaust.

Parked the car up and tried to start it approx 1 hour later, but wouldn't start. Left it another 30 mins or so and it started first time, but stil misfiring.

Drove it approx 2 miles and misfire got so bad that cannot accelerate in any gear, including pulling away in first.

Have managed to get the car home, but dunno what to do or check.

Any sugestions?

Many thanks

Gary

(fitted a front mount a week ago, could it be anything to do with this?)

Coil packs?
I had a duff one on my 95 ra but it only showed up on full boost.
Try closing the gap down on the plugs slightly, if it gets better it could be sign of failing insulation on the coils, if you take the rubber boot of the end you should be able to see very small hairline cracks.

Thats what i thought, but seems to bad a misfire to be plugs or leads.

Seems to get worse as the engine gets warmer.

Will it rev cleanly sitting still?
Does it still miss on a light throttle?

I take it you know your car has individual coils on each cylinder so no plug leads as such, i would have though they're more likely to fail when they're hot. If you've got two or three duff ones it'll be a pretty serious misfire.

Still a slight misfire when revving, but nothing as bad as when under load

Once it got warmer it misfired under any throttle at all

Hope it is the coils or plugs, am panicing about rebuilds etc!!!!
