Default Not another oil debate

Ok its oil change time and i was going to ask what to use in a 93 wrx ra but all that seems to happen is the person asking the question gets very confused as what to use as a fullscale scoobynet war breaks out as every man and his dog jumps in with different reasons for using certain oils/products.

So.... why not list what you use in your engine, gearbox, diff/diff with lsd and also a little bit about the car like age spec etc.

I do not want this to turn into another huge oil debate just a bit of a database for newbies like myself to look at and be able to pick an oil that suits there spec and year of year.

Anyone?

So, what exactly is your point?

I talk ****e, I copy and paste or I know nothing about oils.

I think a little more respect is required here and if you'd bothered to read all my posts on oil you will find out the following:

Yes I copy and paste articles from time to time, some are written by me and some by others who I credit, you are not obliged to read them but others may find them interesting, this is a forum with more than 40,000 members!

I do not talk ****e, my statements are based on fact - if you don't like them then once again, dont read them!

I know a lot about oils, it is my business and has been for many years and I have many happy customers using the oils I recommend including some of the fastest and most powerful cars currently competing around the UK week in and week out.

It's people like you who sometimes make me wonder whether it is worth paying a substantial amount of money annually to Scoobynet!

Either say something useful or don't bother posting!

Cheers
Simon

SN is an interesting place, agreed.

Oilman is obviously biased towards the products he sells. I'm guessing however that he wouldn't sell them if he didn't think they were the best though...

I'm pretty sure that there is another oil somewhere that is as good as the Silkolene ProS I was recommended, and subsequently bought from Opie. Since no-one has recommended it to me, and no one else has bothered to furnish me (and you) with countless articles about oil, I'll stick to the Silkolene

I'm sure some of you feel differently but any chance you could pick the dummy up and calm down?

personally we use and recomend mainly MOTUL...............probably the market leader in terms of Ester synthetics

the only other we now use is Millers Oils products - a very small (in oil terms) company that produce very specific products for quite specialist applications at an exceptional cost, only loses out because they don't have the high profile sponsorship deals of some of the "big" names..............

wouldn't use or recomend any others, have seen the internals of far too many engines to risk our own or customers cars..............

I have to say some of the hostility towards Simon is quite perplexing. I've had several dealings with him (just asking questions about oil generally) and, despite the fact that he's an authorised advertiser, he's not once used my enquiries as an opportunity to get me to buy oil of him. He's just presented me with the empirical facts about an oil and left me to make up my own mind.

If he advertises- he's paying for the Privilage! It's not like anything sneaky or underhand is being tried.
If he quotes figures- that's the data, if anyone has scientific reason to qustion the data or quotes then outline those reasons, don't just say x, y is wrong and doesn't know anything about oils.

Just my two cents...

I am actually really curious what oil to use in my Scooby (it's due for another oil change) and seen as I found out lots of information on Scoobynet regarding fault diagnostics which helped me reach a resolution to some critical issues. I thought this would be the best possible place to get some honest advice..... but jesus!! This is more like a Local 'Cruise' topic.... b1tching!! I am stunned!! Come on boys no need for any of this. Be nice!! Everyone is entitled to have their own opinion. I believe T5OLF did ask for this not to happen and to just post your year of car and type of oil you 'prefer' to use!!

Can some one PM me with a NICE suggestion? 1995 Import WRX with Modified engine lightened valves, H pattern steel conrods etc all the usual - completed 7K miles

We recommend the oils that are most suitable for scoobies (depending on the state of tune/use etc) whether people buy from us is a personal matter.

For the record we don't just sell and recommend Silkolene. A look here will tell you that we in fact sell 6 brands of oil (Motul, Fuchs, Silkolene, Castrol, Mobil and Total) which enables us to select the most suitable for the application.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/lubricants.htm

With regards to SN, the biggest sellers are Silkolene and Motul and this is due entirely to the quality of these oils!

Perhaps it's best that I don't bother posting technical information and just sell as I have the right to do as an authorised trader!

Cheers

I like many others use it because it is one of the most widely used oils by >200 BHP/litre Subaru engines in the UK. And it does smell nice
