Default Cleaning Boost Solenoid - Link ECU

I am getting some boost gauge flutter so thought I should clean the boost solenoid [3 port].

Question is I have read you need to put the ecu into diagnostic mode by connecting the green plugs under the dash, I have a Link ecu so I doubt the green plugs will actually do anything?

Is it possible to clean the solenoid without putting ecu into diagnostic mode?

Jake.

when is gauge fluttering?

you caqn clean it without putting in diagnostic mode.. just less effective etc..

refit original ecu and put in diagnostic mode and clean?

If the fluttering is on full chat then it could be overboosting and the ecu is pulling it back.. is it accompanied with wastegate noise?

its only gauge flutter havent noticed any wastegate noise, normally happens between 4-5.5k rpm.

Its not normal for the boost gauge [defi] to flutter is it?

well seen a set of fluttering defis last week and someone else mentioned failing boost sensor so it may we just be the sensor.

Do you have a mechanical boost gauge you could try..

how much is it fluttering? if more than 0.2bar I would expect you to feel the flutter and therefore know if it was gauge or actual boost altering.

Not sure if its more than .2 bar or not will check it asap. Dont have a mechanical one to hand, might get one to check it.

I will clean the solenoid and see what happens. Also could a slight leak in the fmic pipework cause this?

in fact you would probably notice a lot less than 0.2bar if it was fluctuating actual boost.

intercooler pipe leak could but more likely just to leak under high boost rather than flutuate etc.. although the ecu might stuggle to get the boost to hold target etc.

So really its a gauge thing? I have to say havent really noticed the car juddering or lacking power.

I will check the gauge connection to the manifold. Will be pi$$ed if its the defis because I bought those because I thought they were the best.

Just had an idea, I will playback the defis and record it with my camcorder and post a vid.
