Default Creaking when steering.......

At 1st i thought it was just the cowling around the steering column, but now im sure its in the engine bay, when i turn the steering wheel, stationery or moving, it creaks quite loud, it sounds as if its coming form the engine bay/steering rack, can they fail, if so, if the rack doesn creek, does this mean its shafted ?? could it be fluid or lack of it ?

cheers......

I have a similar problem with my steering rack, it groans when turning slowly after 10 mins. I am pretty sure its the rack itself, because I've had the car on ramps and listened to it whilst the wife turned the steering. I was going to change the fluid to see if it cured it, if not price up a replacement rack. does anybody know how much a rack would cost?

Andy

I have spoken to a subaru dealer, the rack cost nearly £800+vat complete parts only but he said it was servicable and had an exploded diagram of the seals and parts which were available. I might take mine in for a check over and diagnosis

.....

if you do, let me know the outcome, cant afford that, spending near £800 on clutch replacement, not worth spending another £800 on her !!!!wonder if its an MOT failure ? anyone ?

cheers.

What MY cars etc?
Usually MY03 WRX's have plastic boots in the steering system that creak when turning left-right at low speeds but you can hear it only at very low speeds when manouvring!
I have this noise in my WRX since day one!
