I have the same issue. I put in some fuel the other day and whilst I was sat at a set of lights it came on. But the next day it went and then yesterday it came back on again.
I had a new lump put in (this was prior to me buying the car) by Subaru UK so if there is any problems this should be covered.
How come it hasn't had a problem prior to new fuel being put in? I haven't gone above 4.5k revs as advised until the new lump has been bedded in.

i have just read on some of the threads, this can come on if you have the car decatted,
i know i have a prodrive exhaust on the car and styleing but apart from that its standard i believe,
will the prodrive exhaust cause this maybe?

You say it come on once you had filled it up... when the light appears if you turn the engine off when you fire it up again it should go off, my advise would now be to go down to your local Subaru dealer and get it on a computer to see what had gone wrong... as the ecu should record the faults... while there get the faults cleared...
Mine come on down the motorway last year (MY00) that was later diagnosed a faulty Oxygen sensor & MAF...

When you have that error code, do a search to see what previous experiences people have had with said error code.

This will only work on classic shape car.If its a new age car you need an eobd reader to get into the ecu.
