Unhappy MAF error code found

Hi all just done a error code check and come up with maf error code.
Is there any way of testing the maf and would it be wise to try and clean?
Also if it needs replacing what sort of price would i be looking a paying?

Dont no if u can clean a maf,i was told around £80 for a new one.

if its a MY99/00 then about 85 quid for a new MAF sensor. If its another model then ask your stealer. The older type MAFs have been successfully cleaned.

Its a 1995 wrx I was thinking about cleaning with a bit of brake cleaner or something?

New to the land of the superb SCOOBY!!!

Have a 95 STI import, please........ what is and where is the MAF sensor???

overlord - yes i believe brake cleaner or similar is ok ..... probably i would try methylated spirits.
chucky1502 it is after the airbox look for the plug that plugs into it.

can i just ask...how are the error codes found..where do i look to see if any have been generated please? my00 turbo.

remfanuk- It is normal for the check engine light to come on when an error is detected. However, it may not necessarily stay on. If you see it come on at all then the error code will be stored in the ECU and can be read.
The codes can be read by Subaru Dealer (select monitor) or by using the plugs under the steering wheel. Procedure MY99/00 applicable is here:
