owning a wrx
I am thinking of converting to a wrx (many years of vw's) .My wife is a district nurse and does a lot of stop starting in day maybe turns the car on and off 30 times what is the reliability like on these cars i don't want big repair bill's!! the fuel consumption does not bother me just whether the car will get damaged ie turbo etc any help will be appreiciated wanted a scooby for a long time!!

Warming up - the hazards of continual stop-start driving.
Main problem with any turbo cars is if driver turns off engine immediately after driving the car hard without letting it idle for a minute or so. So if shes likely to be dashing about and burning away from lights, lots of turbo use (the turbo on my bugeye starts to cut in approx. over 2500RPM) - I would be concerned.
If the car pootles about in low revs. without any boost (turbo), it shouldn't be a problem as long as the engine is up to a decent operating temp between stops.
Maybe the scoobynet experts may contribute to this thread and elaborate on the 'the time (number of minutes) it takes from starting engine from cold until engine is up to full operating temp'.
However, I would really avoid doing lots of stop-start journeys where the engine is never up to full or near full temp between driving periods. For example, if car is started from cold in the morning, but only goes two miles, then is turned off for 15 mins. and this pattern of use keeps repeating all day, I guess this could be quite punishing on the engine as it will never get to proper temp all day.
Personally, I would buy her a diesel runaround...and leave the scoob for proper runs.

probably not a good idea then,the car won't be very warm and will only travel a matter of yards before being turned off again,this can happen all day(30 times)more peoples opinion would be appreciated even if you all say the same,at the moment one person says probably ok the other says no HELP!!!!!!!

To be honest, I would probably tend to agree with pmarch on this, as I feel that a lot of stop/starting would not be good for a Scoob.
I am no expert, but the Scoob is a performance car, and, whilst very reliable, is perhaps a bit too much of a "thoroughbred" to be used for donkeywork (if you`ll pardon the pun)
If it`s something for short journeys you need, then perhaps something more suited for your purpose is what`s required ie; more of a town-car. These are engineered specifically for this purpose, and are aimed at a particular market, as is the Scoob of course.
It`s just unfortunate that those markets do not concur.
Anyway, good luck with your choice, and BTW, you are right for wanting a Scoob, as they are brilliant, and totally addictive, when used under the right circumstances of course, ie; going quick.

seriously, any car used like that will last maybe 1/3rd of what it would with reasonable use. get any car you're prepared to hate and kill (i suggest an escort).
not being a mad tree hugging lunatic, but a hybrid or milkfloat would be real good. i'd certainly consider one for that sort of driving.
