SVA Pointers.....
Just got a MY98 in from Japan and as far as I can see it's standard apart from :
K & N
FC Commander
Full Stainless exhaust
Boost gauge
Possibly BOV (I haven't had a chance to give it a good look over)
So.....a few questions:
I know I need a model report, but....
Do I need a standard exhaust on for the SVA or just the MOT?
Will the FC Commander will have to come out? I might try to hide it behind the glove compartment.
Do I need a standard air filter?
I know the Boost guage and any other wiring will have to come out and a fog light put in, secured to the existing wiring harness.
Other things I need :
Fuel nozzle
MPH conversion
Any other pointers??
Cheers,
Rob.

An Impreza MY98 has the Applied Model Code: GC8E48D. A Model Report for this car can easily be found, along with the D F & G models.

That was why I stated that you could hire a Model Report for it. Despite knowing a reasonable amount about importing cars; I dont know a deal about E-SVAs using Model Reports (having side-stepped them bfore...). Theres a lot of nonsense talked about removing all accessories, and for the most part its as accurate as the above Model Report advice. As youve stated Rob, youll need to fit a fuel neck restrictor and the speedometer will need to be converted to display MPH clearly visible both during the day and at night. The foglight needs to be correctly fitted and wired with a correctly placed illuminated switch. I dont think that an air filter (panel) will make the slightest difference, nor will the A'Pexi (as long as niether of them affect the fueling/emissions; MOT it first to be certain) or the boost gauge, as long as they arent positioned in whats regarded as a 'dangerous' position. With regard to the exhaust, it really depends what its like: all SVA test centres are different but so long as all of the cats remain in place and it isnt louder than standard then there shouldnt be a problem. The best thing to do there, is decide which test centre youre going to use and giving them a call or better, stopping by and canvassing the testers opinion. You certainly dont need to change the exhaust for the MOT, or the speedo.....

Thanks for the reply Simon!
I had a word with the tester when I was down at the station a couple of months ago. I've had two SVAs in the past couple of years on Surfs I've had but never the E-SVA. Seem to remember him saying the car had to be 'standard'.
The tester was a right stickler (being polite) on the 4x4s with failures on some ridiculous things but I think I'll give them a call. The last time I tried they put me through to a national help line.
At the moment I'm trying to get hold of standard parts just incase.
Cheers,
Rob.

Aye..... I've been told the same about Carlisle.
I've considered it to be honest. Just the prospect of making a second trip that puts me off slightly though a nice drive out would be good..........

Lets put it this way last year i had an E-SVA performed on a 96 STI V3 and even the bonnet pins had to removed for the car to pass, this was in oldham chadderton. Rob if you want your car to defo pass the test you are better off putting it back to standard. otherwise be prepared to pay for a re-test.

You will obviously have to remove bonnet pins. A boost gauge or an FC Commander dont make the slightest bit of difference. If youre asked to remove the boost gauge it will be due to its position, for safety as with the bonnet pins, rather than simply because the car didnt have on on originally..

You might laugh.....I had to take the sharp edge off a brand new fog light and Toyota original wind deflectors on one of my surfs. Needs a 1mm radius (at least) in case someone tries to decapitate themselves with the fog light.......
