Engine connector with no hose connected ? ( with pics )
While fiddling with my engine the other day I noticed what looks like a fluid connection on the right side of the engine ( as you face it ) with nothing connected to it :
Its under the bottom right corner of the intercooler, about 4 inches down - pipe diameter is about an inch.
Engine is in a 98 UK Turbo.
So... does anyone know what should be connected to it ? ( if anything ) - the engine has been modified a fair bit, but this worried me as I dont like spare bits on there !
Doesnt seem to be anything leaking out of it, all fluid levels in the car are fine, cant see any hose that looks like it should be on there.
Thanks
Mike

Not 100% certain, but that should be the pipework to the turbo inlet that the OE recirc dump valve uses. The pictures show an aftermarket VTA so it doesn't use it anymore. The pipe entry on the turbo inlet should be blanked off - and probably is if the car is running well.

With the OE pipework I think a flexible bit of hose connects to it from the DV. Sam again the other end, as in a bit of flexi hose to the inlet pipework - this bit is probably blanked off and the hard section is floating around doing nothing.
Still best to blank it off, since if the car was ever going to be returned to OE, a load of crap could have sat in the pipe, ready to be pushed through the turbo upon reconnection.

That pipe is indeed the return for the recirc dump valve, it goes underneath the manifold and ends just behind no.3 inlet runner where it attaches back into the inlet pipe.
Assuming you are still using a MAF it must be blocked or the car would not run right at all!

Havent got a clue if its using a MAF or not ( how would I tell ? ) - all the engine work was done by previous owners, and I think most was done by 'Bell and Colville Motor Sports'
It may be its blocked on the inside though ? havent prodded enough to check.
And.... are there ready made caps that you can use to block them up on the outside, and anyone know where to get them ?
thanks
Mike

Stick the correct size rubber tube on it only about 2/3inches long.A blanking plug of the right size in the other end and two jubilee clips.I cant really tell what bore that pipe is?A bolt or something like that can be used as a blanking plug if you can find one the right size.
