Arrow QuickShifts....??

I have a B&M Quick Shift in my car..Couple of quesitons if anyone knows:
  1. How does a quick shift Shorten the changes?
  2. Is it possible to cut the rod little to make the gear stick sit tiny bit lower? Has anyone done this?
Cheers

Quickshift shortens the throw by changing the position of the "joint " that attaches gearbox rod to the gearstick.

Its perfectly possible to shorten the gearstick, I reduced mine by 60mm (about the max you can take it). But beware that the shaft diameter reduces after the thread so rethreading is not easy - a better option is to cut off the thread, cut a section out & reweld the thread back on - simplified of course.

The way a quick shift works is by increasing the distance between the pivot ball at the bottom of the lever and the boss/fork which you attach the selector rod to.

Daz,

You got any pics?

I used to have a corrado, and the gear stick used to be dead low..

...just little worries that if i cut too much off the gear changes will get too stiff, though yes was thinking of cutting the thread off as i have a momo gear **** that does not screw on...

Ofcourse the other thing is i paid like £200 for this new and cutting it will oviously loose value...

What to do...? Shall i get the good old Angle grinder on it this evening?

So you want to shorten a quickshift?
I just cut my std gearshift down & this reduced the throw by probably 30 / 40%
Sorry no pics & I dont have the car anymore
Simple answer is cut of 10 /15mm& if thats not enough repeat until happy
Oh & a hacksaw is better than the grinder albiet less fun

Yes want to cut the B&M Short Shift..when i put this in, it did not feel that short at all when changing gears, and had this though last night, that if i cut a small amount off the top this should make the throw little shorter...

But was not sure if this is duable or would it ruin the actuall B&M itself?

How hard was the gear change?

Dont see a problem with this, but remember I only cut down a std gearshift, not a quickshift....
It made the gearchange a lot more solid & much quicker for me. although I do have long arms, so it also made the position better for me

okay...so found me a hacksaw and gav e it a shot...gave up 5mins later afetr my shoulder started to hurt...

Poped the car into the garage, found the Angle Grinder..and 10seconds later.........near 15mm cut off, and out the **** back on...and WOW what a difference it made..

Took the car out for a spin, and my gear change is so quick that my car feels faster

though still can't understand why i had to do this, as the hole reason i bought a quickshift was to reduce the gear throw..oh well, all sorted now..

Thanks for all the input above
