Default Wrong Battery

Just theoretical at the moment, but i was buying some bulbs for the missus's fiesta at halfords this afternoon and had a quick mooch at the batteries.

The one i've got fitted at the mo is huge (had to make new battery clamp bits because the old ones didn't fit ??? ) however looking at their range they have some that are nearly half the weight/size

So if i fit one of these smaller and lighter batteries will there be any problems??, I don't have a big ice install and all that bo**ocks and i don't leave the car standing for weeks at a time

opinions anyone??

cool, i'll have a better mooch around at the weekend

not sure exactly what the weights were, as i said the one i have at the moment is the halfords recommended on which was bigger and heavier the the one fitted when i purchased the car (not sure if that was the standard one or not)

the two i was checking felt about 2/3rds the weight of the one i have but that was only from picking them up and comparing, nothing scientific.
I'll probably go for the cheaper of the two, one was £40ish and i couldn't see the price of the other but i don't want to spend too much if my car then eats the battery within 5 mins

You need to be looking at the amperage of the replacment battery,If its lower than the one required for the car the alternators gonna have to work harder(leading to earlier failure). Also lower amperage is possibly going to lead to starting problems in the winter when all those amps are needed on a cold morning. In my opinion its false economy to buy a cheaper and lighter battery. The weight saved is hardly worth the hassle.

The correct one for scoobies is a 005

I need a smaller battery aswell as the fmic pipes are way to close to the live terminal for my liking (already had one engine fire) so id be interested in finding out whether these halfords smaller batteries are ok

Yeah the 005 battery is the one i've got and it's a lot taller than the battery that was fitted previously, it meant the 2 "L" shaped threaded rods were too short for me to fit the brace down. I ended up bodging a couple of lengths of awl thread which have now started corroding, leaving a messy white powder everywhere and completely fooking the battery strap, so the main priority is getting a battery thet will allow me to use the original threaded rods

however a bit of weight saving never did any harm

I'll have to check the ampage, i noticed they were all 12v but didn't bother checking much else

I'll go and start snooping tomorrow afternoon

thats what my mate uses in his sti5 anyway much shorter in height terminals are identical and +ve terminal is a safe distance from the fmic pipes i think thats what im going to opt for unless i can find the same battery cheaper elsewhere
