Is This Serious - Error Code 546
Iam getting am engine check light every other day and when checked on my SECSs 1004 unit it tells me its a error code 546 which by the manual means "Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Circuit Malfunction (High Input).
What does this mean is this Serious.
The car is a MY2002 UK WRX

ive got the same error.....and no its not really (the biggest danger is not knowing if anything else has gone bellyup!), its just the sensor that goes in the top of the downpipe playing silly buggers....ive been told it can be removed with a small resistor mod, but ive not got round to it yet...

CEL PO546 is indeed an EGT sensor fault......... major danger is if the sensor falls apart and damages something expensive downstream. I'd either replace the sensor or do the 2.2ohm CEL fix and replace the sensor with a blanking bolt / plug (Gussy has written about this on SN).
Quite a few Bugeye's have had this problem (including my WRX 02), not always due to mods as Ninnybob's 400BHP bugeye has never had any EGT sensor problems.
Cheers

I do have a decat fitted, and the cel fix fitted to the ecu, can I just remove the sensor and put the blanking plug in.
Is the sensor after the cat or is there one before the cat (if the orignal pipe was fitted).

The CEL fix you have already is to prevent CEL error PO430 (or P0420, can't remember off the top of my head) which is the cat below efficiency CEL due to the de-cat
The CEL fix for the EGT sensor is a 2.2k ohm resistor between the terminals of the plug ajcacent to the boost solenoid into which the EGT sensor is normally plugged.
Rich........ Gussy has sorted his bugeye with a blanking bolt, try PM or posting on www.cumbrianscoobs.co.uk
Cheers

just to clear the egt is in the uppipe - don't be blanking the sensor in the downpipe
cheers Shaun, I ve just removed the old sensor, it dosn't seem to be as fragile as some would have you belive and it was a pita to remove just need to know the size of bolt to order
