Default all of you with 18/20g's

did you have an issue with the size of the housing and the fact its tight against the regulator elbow and fuel hose?

Nope! What Up-pipe etc are you using?? That usually determines where the Turbo sits.

Yes, I had a fit problem in that region!

looks like Im going to turn the regulator elbow upside down to have the brass outlet towards the inner wing, 1 long section of fuel hose straight into the SX unit.

Peanuts:

That confuses me.
When fitting the SX reg (Like I have done) you remove the Impreza reg off the left hand fuel rail and fit the alum block/brass elbow as a substitute.
The elbow is fitted pointing upwards, and the hose from/to the SX goes onto that across the back of the engine.
Getting around the blower casting was awkward, but extended ok. My worry was to introduce more clips to the connections right by the hot side of the turbo!

If i can, I will post a pic on here to show you how mine worked out. Must remember that I did the parallel fuel rail mod too at the same time.

Graham.

Im going to remove the elbow, and adaptor flange, turn them through 180 degs. so it points to the inner wing, then I will run a hose along the bulkhead to the sx unit.

couldnt turn the elbow upwards in situ, its tight and points to the rail under the inlet plenum.

Don't attatch the hose to the bulkhead, or the Reg unless you have some kind of rubber between the 2. I did that at first (SX reg mounted to bulkhead) and when the fuel pulses through the lines, it resonates through the bulkhead and you can hear it in the cabin!

I had to rubber mount my SX to the bulkhead, and run the hoses away from the bulkhead itself!

my SX unit is mounted where the nearside tmic bracket is, I was going to run the hose and just zip tie it to the hard lines that run adjacent to bulkhead, I suppose I could use a few bits of cut/gash samco as rubber shims/spacers.

good tip, cheers

just had a thunk!!

the hose size is definately 8mm at the SX unit end, is it the same at the elbow/flange or does it reduce under the plenum??

Same IIRC. I actually used some braided hose that is imperial, not metric, and it is a tiny, tiny bit smaller than 8mm. I used 5/16th hose.

8mm is a little 'loose' fitting on the tails IMHO, fine, but you need to tighten down the jubilees etc harder.

I did a parallel fuel mod, using 5/16 ID hose, which is as near as 8mm as it gets (7.94mm)

LOL Pickles edit beat me to it

If thats from Halfords, make sure its the FUEL INJECTION hosing and not just FUEL hosing.

That's the stuff i used too.
The correct fuel injection tube comes with the nice stainless steel clips too, not nasty jubilee clips.
Here's my tubing around the turbo:

Bit hard to take the detail down there, but hope it helps.

well,
tonight I had the blower off again, managed to get a half turn on the elbow to rotate it to the 12 o clock position.
connected the new slightly longer length of hose back to the rail (didnt bother running across the bulkhead)
refitted all the bits and to my dismay, the oil pipe underneath hadnt seated properly
It has almost seated but its not quite there, so I didnt put any more back on the car and will continue tomorrow night.
at least I hadnt refilled all the coolant etc and the downpipe studs were barely finger tight.
primed the fuel system though to see if it would leak/**** fuel everywhere and touch wood it hasnt.
the only thing I have heard to smooth the turbo fitting is to remove the oil pipe underneath and fit it to the pipe on the car, then try to push down on it with the turbo and keep going like this till it seats, bit dodgy imho, there must be a more surefooted way to do this.

I had a tedious time with the oil feed pipe too.
Got it on the block and by trial and error eventually got it 'just the right shape' to get the banjo square to the top of the turbo.
Keeping the copper washers all in the right place at the right time is tricky, but if you grease them they stick well enough tot the banjo's to get there.
it was at this stage i really thought I should have taken the engine out to do all the mods, just so much better (but I HATE those gearbox hours getting it all to align again ( )

oil pipe tip i picked up from sumwhere

the oil pipe under the turbo is a *******o-extremeo

my pipe is jubblie clipped down the bottom on the engine, its a pain to get the clip tightned up but once its on the hose cant move.

then the turbo can easily be pushed down onto the pipe without it slipping around, long nose pliers with a bend in the end can be used to adjust the top spring hose clip into position if needed.

i refitted a turbo once and the pipe was not on properlly, it was a dirty and smokey afternoon cleaning up all that mess

I know its an extra 10 mins but I jack the car up and totally remove the downpipe, then its easy to keep the hose on the turbo and push it onto the pipe, then undo / do up the clips from underneath.

well I tried that last night, but it went horribly pete tong!

The SX has a pipe that connects to the fuel rail, I disconnected that and made a straight connection to the adaptor elbow.
primed the fuel pump and it pissed petrol out, tried again in case it was residue, happened again.

now have elbow at 12 o clock position, longer leg of injector hose connecting to original rail and SX plumbed in as before.
refitted 18g tonight, only casualties were that I bust a jubilee from turbo outlet to fmic pipe, no spare, no boost for me till I get to halfords!

next up 550's need clean and flow test, then fitting, box and diff being done thursday/friday (garage now¬!) then its off to trawl the country to find a mapper who can sort me before scooby shoot out.

well, made it to work this morning, but had to stop twice.
the throttle cable was sticking open so I had a heath-robinson version of cruise control, only when you dip the clutch it flew round to 7k rpm

The little connector piece on the end of the actuator plunger has also gone for a burton, so no boost whatsoever, maybe 0.08bar?

I need a new actuator, and PDQ,
