Anyone experienced their fuel gauge becoming erratic as it approaches the quarter of a tank marker?

Basically, the light would come on when there is still ample fuel in the tank, then the needle would drop to its lowest point, but gradually returns to it normal position.

This has happened shortly after starting the car and under normal driving conditions.
