help,sti-ra misfire on boost
I have just taken my recently imported version 2 for its first mot to register it and the first time i floor it it misfires and runs really rough as it comes on boost but if you drive gently up the rev range it will sit at 5-6000 rpm ok but it does it in any gear at any revs so what is going on, It is completely standard except for a hks panel filter, it still has the standard pee shooter exhaust!!!!!!!!
anyone got any suggestions before i have to get it checked out, the check engine light is not coming on which to me says it cant be a faulty sensor but it sounds like the re-circ dump valve is chirping away when it is misfiring! or could it be the wastegate opening early????????
cheers mark

Take the plugs out first and check condition and gaps - Should be NGKPFR6B or equivalent, fitted as standard with a gap of 0.7 mm IIRC.
Then look at the coilpacks - check the isulators as they are prone to cracking.

my RA and your car has a self diagnostic system built into the standard ecu, there are a pair of connectors close to the steering column, practically above your left knee. if you connect these and turn on the ignition the check light pulses a code which can be converted to the faulty component. www.saxonfields.freeserve.co.uk has the info, if you cant find it here let me know, or search for it on scoobynet I have seen links posted before.

any more ideas???????
Thanks for the link to the diagnostic check very handy to keep.
It did not show up any codes just a stedy constant flashing which means no faults found on the ecu???
This cant be a bad thing but i still have a misfire
I will probably get a set of spark plugs and four coil packs to try for the weekend, i also have a new motorsport fuel pump to fit aswell and fuel sender units as they are not working either!!
Any more suggestions???

I would be nearly 100% sure it is either the plugs opr coil packs. Try the plugs first as these are the cheaper option and then the more expensive option of the coil packs. I replaced both on mine and she pulls sweet up through the gears now.
